codeBeamer ALM’s latest version 20.11-LTS (Carmen) has just been released, bringing a range of usability improvements, technical & performance enhancements, and updated integrations. Find out what is new, and why you should consider upgrading to the new version!
First off, let’s take a moment to clarify why version 10.1 is now followed by 20.11-LTS (Carmen)! Our new naming convention makes it easy to identify the release date of each new version. The LTS suffix identifies Long-term Support (LTS) releases, which will be supported for 2 years after the release date. Carmen is the version’s internal codename that some of our users may be familiar with.
Version highlights in codeBeamer ALM 20.11
Test execution configuration with Test Steps fields
To simplify product testing, codeBeamer ALM’s latest version 20.11 now offers more options and greater granularity to QA teams. By adding custom Test Step fields, you can now define additional test step properties to test cases. For instance, this lets you add a dedicated field for testing evidence when defining or executing test cases – testers can simply upload evidence for test results to this field.
Dynamic “mandatory if” logic with forms
Version 20.11 introduces a new tracker configuration option to make certain fields mandatory under special conditions. Using “mandatory if” logic, you can set up a field so that it becomes mandatory only if another field is changed. This new logic is supported across the entire system, helping you map dependencies across fields.
NEW Horizontal and vertical view panels for enhanced efficiency
To improve usability, we’ve made significant updates to the table view throughout codeBeamer ALM. Horizontal and vertical panels enable overview-at-a-glance, and simplify work item editing. Use the detailed horizontal panel mode to add comments to items, and edit work item summaries and descriptions with the in-place editor. A convenient update: your view settings (including the order of columns) is now maintained through your current session for a familiar and efficient environment across the system.
Continuous Integration workflow automation for Jenkins
Starting with 20.11, you can now set up workflow transition to trigger Jenkins jobs, greatly supporting the automation of CI pipelines. This update lets you, for example, start a Jenkins automated testing job once a bug transitions to a predefined status. The result: reduced effort and bulletproof quality assurance!
Usability updates: Filtering & moving items
Reports now offer new filters for associations to simplify the definition of a dependence tree in codeBeamer ALM in case you’re using associations instead of references. You can now easily filter for groups, roles, or team members to simplify project monitoring. Another convenient update lets you specify parent work items when moving multiple items. This update makes working with large numbers of work items easy and efficient.
Better reporting with cBQL Word templates & PDF exporting
Working with internal or external stakeholders through Word docs? New MS Word export templates in 20.11 let you use the cBQL query language, enabling you to easily generate complex and customized reports with data from across trackers. codeBeamer’s PDF export feature, now based on MS Word, also received an update.
